Middle East and Africa routes: stopovers, pilgrimages and ferry crossings
Gulf hubs sit on the way to everywhere, and the countries around them are close together but separate. Plan by country, not by region name.

Many travellers meet this region on a stopover: a night in Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi on the way to somewhere else. Others come for business across several Gulf capitals, for a weekend that crosses from the UAE into Oman, or for Umrah in Makkah and Madinah. Further west, the ferry from Spain makes Morocco an easy add-on to a Europe trip.
These are short distances between separate countries. Dubai and Abu Dhabi share a country; Doha and Muscat do not. A plan for one country stops at its border, and a multi-country plan works only for the countries on its list. The guides here help you decide what each stop needs and when to switch lines.
A travel data eSIM has no phone number of its own, so every guide here also covers keeping your home line reachable for calls and SMS codes.
Quick answers
Does one UAE plan cover Dubai and Abu Dhabi?
Yes. Both cities are in the United Arab Emirates. Doha (Qatar) and Muscat (Oman) need their own coverage.
Do I need an eSIM for a stopover?
If you leave the airport for a night or more, a small country plan is worth it. Airside, airport Wi-Fi is usually enough.
Does a Europe plan cover Morocco?
Often not. Morocco is outside the EU and many Europe plans leave it out. Check the list.
